Beale on Tigers Cup Success
Jon Beale has hailed the inaugural Tigers Cup pre-season tournament as a huge success.
The four-team competition, which was staged at the Academy's Bishop Burton base over three days saw the Tigers, Huddersfield Town U19s, Bridlington Town and Pickering Town compete to lift the trophy.
Beale's side kicked-off the competition on a positive note with a 4-0 win over Pickering to book their place in the final while Huddersfield were victorious in the second semi-final, beating Bridlington 4-1.
The Seasiders responded in positive fashion to seal third spot - beating nine-man Pickering 4-0 in the third/fourth place play-off match - before the Tigers lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory over the Terriers in the final.
Reflecting on the success of the overall competition, Academy Manager Beale said: "I think it’s been a great addition to our pre-season schedule and something that we’ll look to continue to do each year.
"Pre-Season is important because as much as it’s about developing the bits you want to work on, but it’s also about getting the varied experiences for the lads as well.
"You’re going to come up against different sort of players throughout the course of the season, especially at U23s level.
"And the benefit of this tournament was that the lads had two very different tests - both of which aided our preparations for the new Professional Development League season.
"On the whole, the tournament was a great success and that was very pleasing. It was pleasing that all four teams took it seriously and the standard was very high and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved at the other clubs for helping to make it such a success story.
"Over the three days, the four games were all played in good spirits and I was delighted with how everything came together."
