Best Eager To Finish On Winning Note
Tommy Best says he and his Hull City Under-18s team-mates are yet to achieve their points target ahead of their final game of the season against Colchester United on Saturday.
John Anderson and Terry Boyle's young side set out to claim 15 points from their final eight games of the season and took their tally to 14 from their last seven when beating Crewe Alexandra 2-1 on home soil in midweek courtesy of goals from McCauley Snelgrove and Andy Smith.
Speaking ahead of the U18 Professional Development League clash with The Us, Best said: "The target was fifteen points in the last eight games and we’re currently on fourteen so we need one point from our last game.
"We think it's definitely do-able but, hopefully, we’ll surpass that target and get all three points.
"Obviously it’s another tough game. Every game in this league we play is always tough, but I think if we can perform like we have been doing of late, we can pick up another three points.
“Since the turn of the year, we've been really good - we’ve almost been unstoppable.
"I think we’ve been outstanding and have been contenders for the best team in the league - one hundred per cent.
"From where we were at Christmas time to where we are now - it’s been an amazing turnaround.
"It’s been great to see and the confidence in the boys is really high and that is exactly what you want in the team.
"It’s a long overnight stay for us so we’ve got to be sharp from the off as with every game. I think if we play as we have done, we should see the first ten to fifteen minutes out and go again.
"They'll be strong like every team. They’ll have good, strong players up front and will make it difficult for us.
"But, as I've said, we're high on confidence at the minute and we're determined to finish on a positive note with three points."
