Jacob: Best Team Won

Jacob: Best Team Won

Matty Jacob admitted Bridlington Town were deserved winners of the East Riding FA Senior Cup Final after inflicting a 3-1 defeat on the Tigers on Wednesday night.

In what was the third successive meeting between the two sides in the final, the Seasiders led 2-0 at the break courtesy of goals from Joe McFadyen and Chris Jenkinson.

Jon Beale's young side pulled a goal back just past the hour mark through Billy Chadwick's fine solo strike but Jenkinson's second of the evening ensured victory for the Northern Counties East League outfit.

"It would have been nice to lift the cup again after winning last season, but credit to Bridlington were better than us on the night," Jacob said when reflecting on the defeat.

"We just didn’t start well enough and overall the first half performance was disappointing.

"Jon Beale made it clear to us at half-time that we weren’t good enough in areas of the pitch in the first 45 minutes. For whatever reason, we just weren’t battling well enough.

We were getting bullied and even though I thought we did raise our performance levels in the second half, it wasn’t enough to find a way back into the game.

"I thought we could definitely push on from Billy’s goal which made it 2-1, but we just couldn't find that all-important equaliser.

"It was a good experience for us as a young side though. As I say, Bridlington were deserved winners but we just need to use that as motivation to try and get the back next season."
