Report: Crewe U23s 2 Hull City U23s 2

Keane Lewis-Potter scored twice as Hull City Under-23s twice came from behind to grab a draw in an entertaining Professional Development League clash with Crewe Alexandra on Monday afternoon.

Jon Beale made five changes to the side that drew with Barnsley a week earlier. Harvey Cartwright took over in goal from Callum Burton and Lewis Ritson returned to the side. He was joined in the centre of defence by trialist Danny Lupano as Ben Adamson and Jacob Greaves dropped out of the side. Tyler Hamilton and Ahmed Salam both picked up knocks against Barnsley which resulted in Callum Smith and Tom Powell coming into the starting eleven.

The Tigers got off to the worst possible start in Cheshire and fell behind with just six minutes played when Regan Griffiths fired home from close-range after two other team-mates had failed to convert a cross from the left.

The Tigers responded well to the disappointment though as Keane Lewis-Potter came close to an equaliser when curling an effort narrowly wide before Smith, Powell and Josh Hesson all forced saves from Crewe keeper David Richards.

A poor clearance from the Tigers gifted Crewe a decent chance to extend their lead just after the half hour with only a fine save from Harvey Cartwright preventing them from doing so. Rio Adebisi fed the ball inside for Oli Finney to shoot. With the effort heading into the bottom corner, Cartwright got down brilliantly low to his right to make a one-handed save.

Billy Chadwick curled a 36th minute shot inches wide of the far post with Richards beaten and Powell lashed an eight-yard shot over the top as the Tigers continued to search for an equaliser going in the break.

The Tigers came out the traps flying in the second period and grabbed a deserved equalised on 53 minutes when Lewis-Potter found the back of the net in trademark fashion. After sprinting down the left-hand side with the ball, the winger cut inside and fired a low strike into the far corner.

However, the hosts restored their lead just three minutes after the restart when Oliver Finney drilled a low shot past Harvey Cartwright following neat build-up play inside the Tigers' half.

And it looked as though that goal would be enough to secure the points for the hosts - that was until Lewis-Potter popped up with his second of the afternoon in stoppage-time. Brandon Fleming and Billy Chadwick combined nicely down the left and the latter's cross was met by Lewis-Potter, who stole a yard on his marker to glance a header into the far corner.
