Report: Sculcoates Ams 0 Hull City 2

Hull City produced a professional performance to register a 2-0 victory over Humber Premier League club Sculcoates Amateurs and progress to the final of the East Riding FA Senior Cup Final on Tuesday night.

After a goalless first 45 minutes at the Roy West Centre, second half strikes from Oliver Green and Billy Chadwick secured the win.

The Tigers started the brighter of the two teams with Harry Wood releasing Chadwick, only for the striker to see his effort blocked by Sam Thames. A combination of the Sculcoates’ defender and goalkeeper Pat Weaver then denied McCauley Snelgrove, before Chadwick had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Jack Wilkin.

Chadwick almost found himself through on goal again when looking to latch onto Green's chipped pass, but Weaver was sharp off his line to bring an end to the danger.

Wood was then denied twice in as many minutes as the Tigers continued to look the more the threatening side in the final third. The midfielder's first effort was blocked by Thames before an on-target free-kick was gathered at the second attempt by Weaver. Matty Jacob’s dangerous cross was then headed behind by Luke Cording as the first-half ended goalless.

Sculcoates tested the reactions of Harry Fisk early in the second half with Jack Rooks’ deflected cross well gathered by the Tigers goalkeeper before the opening goal of the game came five minutes after the restart. Green latched onto Andy Smith’s long pass and the midfielder rounded the onrushing Weaver before cooly slotting the ball into the empty net.

The Tigers thought they had doubled their lead through Snelgrove moments later when the midfielder collected Jacob's pass before finishing past Weaver, only to see the goal ruled out for offside.

Green should have scored his second goal of the game as a lovely team move saw Snelgrove chip the ball over the Sculcoates defence to find his team-mate, but Green's lobbed effort could only find the roof of the net.

A deserved second goal did eventually arrive shortly after - with Chadwick continuing his fine run of form in front of goal. The striker showed quick feet to create space for a shot before finding the bottom corner with a low, curling effort.

Louis Beckett was next to take aim as he fired over the bar before, at the other end, Alex Stock’s cross-shot was blocked by Jacob.

There were further chances for both teams in the closing stages, with Jacob spotting the run of Wood, who was unlucky to see his lob cleared off the line by Thames before Luca Sowerby’s whipped free-kick flew just over the bar.

The final chance of the evening feel to substitute Luke Rees in stoppage-time, after being released by Wood, but he could only fire his effort over the bar. It mattered not though as the Tigers booked their place in the final of the East Riding FA Senior Cup for the fourth successive season.
